A gleaming example of the incorrect way to launch a brand new motor yacht. I wonder if the crane operator ever lived it down!

Has anything like this ever happened to you or someone you know?, or have you witnessed your own memorable moment? We want to know – leave us a comment in the box below!

We are seeing articles about anything related to boating or watersports. Been jetskiing on holiday? We want to read about it!

eWoggle, the ultimate sailing and boating website, launched its first article writing competition last week to universities in the West Midlands, UK.

So far the competition has generated a lot of interest and the eWoggle team has been busy going though the submissions received. The deadline for submissions is only a few short weeks away (1st December 2010), so aspiring journalists are encouraged to submit their sailing, boating, or watersports article as soon as possible. The prize is the opportunity to take a two week internship at eWoggle’s parent company, Centre for Factories of the Future, at Coventry University Technology Park.

Competition organiser Faye said: “This is a great opportunity for students who enjoy writing to see their work published on a popular website with an international readership. Having an internship like this on your CV will definitely give you a leading edge when it comes to applying for jobs once you graduate”.

Articles can be submitted to info@ewoggle.com by 1st December 2010. Submissions may be published on www.ewoggle.com. If you are chosen as the winner, you will be offered a ‘travel expenses only’ internship at Centre for Factories of the Future, where you will gain first hand experience in designing website content, and be involved in marketing and website development. The internship is only available to students from the surrounding area, although submissions from further afield are welcome, and may be published. If you have any questions, then please contact us using the email address provided.

Why wait? Start writing today!

The new sailing and boating website eWoggle have launched a student competition in search of article writers for their new nautical website eWoggle (www.ewoggle.com).

Centre for Factories of the Future, based in Coventry University Technology Park, launched the website to the public last week and to coincide with the launch, they are offering a two week internship to the author of the best article they receive before the Christmas deadline.

This competition is aimed at students in the West Midlands area In the UK, and reaches as far as Leicester University, De Montfort University and Northampton University.

All submissions received will be entered into the competition, and the best article will be selected by the website editors. The winner will be announced on the eWoggle website at the beginning of December, and their feature article will be published on the homepage.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for all student writers in the local area looking to experience the thrill of seeing their work published on a world-wide website” said Oliver, competition organiser and eWoggle content editor.

“We are looking for any articles which are sailing or boating related. Perhaps they want to write personal experiences or something practical and factual. As long as the article is sailing or boating related we want to read it.”

He added, “The prize on offer should attract much interest because the winner will gain invaluable experience of working as part of a small dynamic team, and have the opportunity to create journalistic content for an up and coming website.”

Murphy’s Law

Sailing the seas can be made to look very easy, which is evident in today’s Classic Youtube clip. The man sailing the small vessel and looks completely in control, everything is going to plan, surely nothing could go wrong…could it?

It looks as though a wave takes them man by surprise and what follows is very much Murphy’s Law in practice, when one thing goes wrong everything that could fail, fails spectacularly.

Today’s video is a bit of light relief. If you have ever been in a bad docking situation this video is sure to make you feel much better. This male skipper is having awful trouble trying to dock his boat. Making the same mistakes is a bit of an understatement for this haphazard skipper.

Watch as the skipper and his mate relentlessly try to reverse their motorboat into the marina. Even by the fourth attempt he is still making the same errors and is dangerously close to damaging both boats either side of him. Enjoy!

Hi Everyone!

The eWoggle blog is back. It has been a very busy month behind the scenes with everyone involved with the website working hard to make sure our launch to both providers and the public are as successful as possible.

Following the Southampton Boat Show, eWoggle moved into a new office situated in the Design Hub at Coventry University Business Park. Although it took a while to connect to the internet and sort out the phone lines, C4FF have finally successfully settled into their new home (pictured).

We have now started to launch to providers by sending out a batch or emails to UK based companies and Ireland. We have had a fantastic response so far and as you can see from the website charter holidays are starting to become rapidly available.

When speaking to charter companies, one thing we have been able to do is pick up some very positive and sometimes negative feedback, which we have then discussed as a team and made suitable changes where appropriate.

One notable change which has occurred thanks to listening to friendly feedback from our providers is the period/schedule feature for charters has been improved and now providers are given the option to either use the scheduling or not.

This will become a very useful tool for us because it allows eWoggle to get smaller charter companies on board and companies who only offer day charters.

The rest of the system works accordingly. I.e. when no periods are provided, then that particular offer will always come up regardless to the budget and date search criteria (assuming the rest of the criteria are met).

Our technical team have also added a piece of text when a user of providers hover’s the cursor over the search mechanism on the eWoggle website. The text simply explains to users that if they want to search for all charters or holidays, all they have to do is click the search button.

I think we can consider our launch to UK providers a huge success, but that is not the end. Today eWoggle will be getting touch with our sailing and boating friends in the USA, Canada, New Zealand and Australia in the hope of creating our worldwide sailing and boating community website.

Everything is ship shape!

This video is the second installment of classic youtube and todays video is a real treat. This boat does what most can only dream of. It somehow finds a small gap in an iceburg and sails through it from one side to the other.

When you watch the video you can see the relief of the people on board as they succesfully passed through. Who knows when an iceburg could fall and the sailors deserve credit for risking their lives to produce a stunning video.
